Who Are We
The ABDCO is comprised of licensed AKC and American Field trial and Hunt
Test  giving Clubs. We work with the State to schedule Field Trials and Hunt
Tests on state wildlife areas and on private grounds.  We  promote hunting
with dogs and wildlife conservation
Ohio Dog of the Year  awards are given to outstanding dogs that compete in American Field
Pointing  Breed Trials, AKC Pointing Breed Trials, AKC Retreiver Trials and Hunt Tests.
Membership
Membership is open to any bird dog club or organization that hold field trials, hunt tests or other
competitive bird dog event in the state of Ohio. Priority Dates are drawn twice a year to use the state
wildlife areas. Members of the ABDCO draw the dates at the state priority meeting  and resolve any
conflicts as to who receives the dates available. We also schedule dates on private grounds to help
avoid conflicting events within the group.
Field Trials go hand in hand with hunting. Proven breeding stock produce outstanding hunting
companions.  Trials give the hunter additional opportunities to enjoy their sport and their dogs. A
schedule of Field Trials and Hunt Test held in Ohio is posted on this website calendar.

News  Updates from 2008
On Monday May 5th an extension was given to the Ohio Field Trial Clubs to continue to hold field trials at Killdeer Plains
Wildlife Area and Indian Creek  until the end of the calendar year. It is possible that a three year extension will be
forthcoming. This extension has been the work of Tony Celebrezze who has been the only one to step up and help us
save our field trial grounds here in the state of Ohio.   The USFWS and the ODW had determined that these two grounds
would be close to all future trials as of April 30th this year.  Tom Honecker, Rany Hopkins and the late Ron Zook were
instrumental in working with Mr. Celebrezze to procure this extension.  We are thankful to Tony for all the work he has
done on our behalf. We ask all field trials to email or write to Mr. Celebrezze and let him know how much we appreciate
him and also to let them know there are more than just a couple hundred local people who use these grounds.  It is only
a step away from eliminating  hunting if they succeed in shutting down field trials.

Update on Grounds Situation  Killdeer and Indian Creeks Wildlife Areas

February 6, 2008

On November 15th 2007 a meeting was facilitated by the US Sportsman's Alliance between representatives of teh
Associated Bird Dog Clubs of Ohio - Tom Honecker, Ron Zook, and Randy Hopkins,  -  Tony Celebrezze-Deputy Director Ohio
Department of Natural Resources, Dave Graham- Chief Ohio Division of Wildlife also in attendance  a the request of the
ABDCO was Dr. Mark Pinkerton, an active field trialer and member of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

* US Sportsmen's Alliance after investigation agreed to assist field trialers with these issues

* The results of the meeting were that the Ohio Division of Wildlife claimed the push was coming from the Feds. Dr Mark
Pinkerton's initial phone calls did not back up this claim. After the  meeting the Feds basically fell in line with the statements
that Field Trials needed to go, but with no real justification.

* Tony Celebrezze seemed interested in assisting us, Dave Graham however stated that he had no problem with field trials
in general, but he felt they were doing irrevocable ecological damage to Killdeer and indian Creek and thought they should
not be held there. However he stated that if the Feds backed off he would also. No alternative sites were discussed. The
received damage bing done was not further defined.

* Conversations have continued between Tom Honecker and Tony Celebrezze. The request was made to Celebrezze that the
Feds give the state a quote on purchasing the federal interest in the field trial areas on both grounds, as of yet the Feds have
not responded.

*Further conversations between Tom Honecker and US Sportsman's Alliance along wit the grass roots letter writing
campaign have identified two politicians that might be open to helping us if they receive enough interest from voters.

* An individual field trial wrote letters to the Federal office of US Fish and WIldlife and the regional office in Mn., he received a
responses so they are acknowlleding the situation. Multiple individuals need to write as concerned citizens to keep the
pressure up.

* In late Feb or early March we will hold a meeting of the ABDCO to further update everyone. In the meantime keep writing to
your local and state representative as well as the USFWS.  Sample letters can be found on the www.savefieldtrials.com site.
